My Corgi Batmobile

The Corgi Batmobile! This is one of the first toys I saved, having received it from Dad and Mom when I was a kid during the 1970s. It was the Batmobile from the TV series. I remember vividly our watching the Batman series, whether seeing the horrifying Joker (hearing that laugh), the beautiful Catwoman (Julie Newmar broke a lot of hearts), or the Penguin and his hobbling, the show was an exciting time at that very important 'Bat Time' on that 'Bat channel'. Seeing Batman and Robin climb walls, fight villains (KAPOW), and ZOOM around in the Batmobile was always a thrill!

I remember Dad giving me my Corgi Batmobile. Pictured here, it's clear my Batmobile was played with. Yes, it's a little distressing seeing it as it is today, but I would argue that I got a lot of fun out of that car. What's more, my Corgi collection has expanded to include one that is in amazing, original condition. It even has the miniature Batman that came with the Corgi Batmobiles. Adding to the fun, there are instructions and tips available online for restoring Corgi Batmobiles. Yep! I purchased new parts with which to restore my Batmobile while also having a vintage one for display. As for the Corgi Batmobiles, there were 'junior' Corgi versions as well, which I did not collect.

As for the Batmobiles, there were a variety of tire styles and and rear ends, the latter necessitated for those that could tow the Bat Boat. For me, the best thing is the engraving of Batman on the bottom of the car. So EPIC! Recently, I reflected on the things I had throughout my life, particularly such collectibles as the Corgi Batmobile. I'll be restoring some things while others I'll leave as is, knowing that these toys were meant to be played with. For those collectibles I restore, I will provide links to the guidelines I use in restoring them. Admittedly, I worry about lead paint and other hazardous materials so I will be taking all precautions possible. I recommend everyone research such issues when restoring objects in their collections. I will not be restoring things for other people (so don't email me asking me to fix anything - find a professional conservator - they are trained to restore things where I fear I will make something worse). In any event, I hope you enjoy the photos I post here and on Instagram. That said, here are a few more photos of my Corgi collection. Check out Entertainment Earth for current Batmobiles for collectors or kids of all ages.
